Florida Caverns State Park
June 7th, 2008
Well if you haven’t been to this state park, i would definitely suggest checking it out. Florida Caverns State Park is located in Marianna, Florida and is a great destination for a hike. it offers several paths through the foothills of Northwest Florida and for me, was a “breath taking” experience.
Surrounded by a beautiful green forest you walk up to the gift shop and purchase your tickets for the tour. if i recall correctly, a mere $8 per adult was the price for a great subterrainian escape. once we entered the main door to the cave i was amazed that something this gorgeous existed in Florida. this was my first time in a cave and to be honest, I really didn’t know that Florida had any. None that I was aware of at the time anyways.
If you’re a photographer, note that during the cave tours, you are not permitted a tripod inside the cave. You might be able to get away with a monopod but im not sure about that. witht he number of people on the tours, a tripod is definitely a safety hazard.
Here’s a photo of one of the large rooms inside of the cave, it took me a few shots to get this right but i think it worked out rather well. after finding a rock inside the cave to set my camera on, of course. after taking the tour you hike through the woods back up to the gift shop so be prepared. this trip was definitely an amazing adventure and i would recommend it to anyone. you have to see it at least once in your lifetime.
