Falling Waters State Park
June 16th, 2008
Falling Waters State Park is a great destination for a hike or a swim located in beautiful Chipley, Florida.
We were there last summer in August and the water table was a little low so the waterfall wasn’t flowing. So if you’re going there to see the fall, call before hand and see where the water table is. The Hiking is nice and the trails are decent, mostly boardwalks inter-weaving through a maze of sinkholes in the hillside. We were on the sinkhole trail which is probably the most popular trail at the park because it leads to the fall. They also have a wiregrass trail as well which we did not go on but we will sure be checking it out next time.
After hiking the trails and shooting a few photos of the sink holes and the dried up fall, we walked over to the butterfly garden near the trail entrance and watched the butterflies for a while before heading over to one of the swimming holes at the park to go for a dip and eat our lunch.
Overall it was a great trip and we would recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors. There is quite a bit of walking down and up hills so if you’re out of shape like i am, it can be a bit exausting but it’s definitely worth it. Just make sure it’s not 102 degrees outside as it was when we went and you should be alright.
There’s also an abundance of wildlife at the park so be prepared with your cameras and you might catch something worth bragging about.
