Anastasia State Park
April 9th, 2009
Well, we’re here in beautiful St. Augustine for the weekend and just got back from checking out the gorgeous Anastasia State Park. This place is amazing! beautiful white sand beaches, tons of covered picnic areas, 2 different concession stands, kayak, canoe, and sailboat rentals, yeah… sailboat rentals… not sure how much they cost to rent or if they rent for the day or by the hour. we’ll check tomorrow while we’re there and let you all know.
Unfortunately, silly me, I misplaced my card reader so we can’t post any photos of the park just yet but i’ll try and pick one up tomorrow while we’re out as well. It’s beautiful. You can see the well known lighthouse from the boardwalk that leads out to the beach right past a bunch of sailboats. it’s definitely a sight to see.
As far as facilities go, the restrooms are clean well kept. There a camping areas within the park though right now they happen to be full so plan ahead if you plan on camping here. We got there around 5pm and it wasn’t packed at all. If you are going to camp here or just plan on spending the day here you might want to think about bringing a bicycle. There’s also bicycle racks at the boardwalk for you to park your bike before heading up to the beach and there’s plenty of places to ride around.
Within the first 5 minutes out on the beach i met a guy who had found a star-fish in the tide pool and he was kind enough to let me borrow it for a couple photos in the sand. I thought that was pretty cool and I spent the next 30-45 minutes strolling the tide pool while looking for one of my own with no luck.
There’s plenty of shells for the little one’s to pick up along the beach and stuff so bring a bucket and let them have at it.
We both agree that this park is definitely in our list of favorite places thus far. There’s still a long way to go and our list of favorite Florida State Parks is constantly growing as we discover more of this gorgeous state that we live in. We’ll keep you posted along the way don’t you worry.
Have fun and happy shooting (photographer jargon) and exploring Florida.
