Bahia Honda State Park - Big Pine Key, Florida
Hello everyone!! I hope this new post finds all of you safe and happy and ready to start a new year!!
Since there is probably no possible way for Travis and myself to get to every single state park in the time line we would like we have inlisted the help of some of our friends who live close to parks we have been unable to visit yet. My best friend Cathy lives close to Miami and was heading out to Bahia Honda so I recruited her for our cause!! She did an amazing job with all of the pictures she took as well as what she wrote. I am not going to change even one word she did so good!! Thank you Cathy!!
This was beautiful..one side of the park is the gulf coast and the other side is the Atlantic side. The gulf side is so calm and the Atlantic side is wavy so you can have best of both worlds on the same day. People were kayaking..u can rent them there...and on the Atlantic side they were doing the sailboarding with the parachutes....
there is camping here....the camp grounds are quiet and face the Atlantic side..can go from tent to ocean in about 100 ft. The rest rooms are clean, There is a gift shop/snack shop..I didn't have a chance to go in..but you can pull your boat up to the snack shop/gift shop from the gulf side.
This was a very pretty park and even when it was busy it was quiet there...
on the gulf side to walk into the water id advise wearing water shoes..lots of rock and pieces of coral..and on the Atlantic side we were there late afternoon there was a lot of seaweed I didn't try to walk in the water i hate the feel of seaweed on my legs.
People were snorkeling with their own equipment right off the gulf beach.....there is no lifeguard on either beach so its swimmers beware....but both sides seemed pretty safe...
Also you can see the expressway from the gulf beach I photographed it..but you can absolutely not hear any of the traffic the beach is quiet. I just wish I had gotten there earlier in the day it was a peaceful park to visit and I would enjoy to go back and spend a whole day there.
I did not walk any of the paths but other people wre walking them in their bathing suits barefoot who were campers so I assume they were pretty safe.
